Pick n Mix
The Lord knows us through and through, every thought that forms, every word we speak, every action we take...he knows all that is seen and all that is unseen. I've had a glorious past few days and throughout it all i've been humbled, firstly by the spectactular Welsh scenery-The sheer immense beauty and 'bigness' made me feel insignificant, powerless and awed...to think that I am such a small part of this awesome world that God created, what an honour to be included amongst it all. Secondly, by Lichfield Cathedral, a place of such size and decadence, I felt so humbled in this place, yet at the same time I felt sad, because God isn't about gold gilding, fancy woodwork and intricate tiled flooring, he is so much more than that, instead of spending time, and money on these material things, people need to be out there, giving, sharing, loving, letting Gods love be shown by whats within them, not how many bouquets of flowers and marble statues their place of worship has.
What Jesus did on the cross takes the unforgiveable and makes it forgiveable-thats grace, and I think we tend to forget, myself included what being a christian and loving God is all about, its about his unending love, his mercy and grace, its not about how many 'good things' we give him or how much money we donate
I often struggle with seeing God in times of trouble, hindsight is a wonderful thing, I can look back and join the dots, make the relevant connections, see the bigger picture, but when the mist comes down, these things are hard to see, I was really struck this morning by what the minister was saying, he talked about how gold needs to be fired to become a finished product, and he said how our faith, something even more precious than gold needs firing as well, to help create a finished product
'Your faith is tested so that it may endure'
This to me speaks volumes, how does anyone ever know anything works, without testing it first?? When people invent things, they test them before they declare them complete, they make sure they work before they offer them to others, when you buy an item of clothing, you try it on before hand, and you wash it to keep it in good condition, when you buy a new car, you test drive it first, and then you get it MOT'd to make sure it still fulfills its purpose, to make sure it is still doing what it needs to do, so why should this not apply to faith
When you have faith, it needs testing, sitting back complacently assuming your faith will be ok, is foolish, you wouldnt leave your car alone for ages, then just expect it to work when you needed it to, so why do the same with your faith?
Faith needs testing, trialing, looking at, caring for to help it work, to strengthen it, to keep it complete, so think for a moment, when was the last time you checked your faith into a garage, gave it a polish, topped up its fuel and made sure it was ok...I know i don't do it often enough, and I bet you don't either, luckily Gods unconditional love is there for us, but having a relationship is a two way process, so make sure you play your part, because he certainly plays his
Amen <3
Go in peace, for the Lord is with you, always and forever
