It's behind you...

It's behind you...isn't it??

Is our past ever really, our past? All the stuff, all the debris thats behind us, all the things we did, the words we said, the actions we never took, the mistakes we made, the regrets we have...are they ever really in our past, do we ever really recieve forgiveness, from others, from ourselves, from God????

In answer to the first one, well im not so sure, I mean we make a mistake, or we don't do what we should, and in an ideal world, we realise we got it wrong, we say we're sorry, and we mean it, and that is that, forgiveness is given and we move on...but in reality, how many times have you stood accused of something, when you can't see what was so wrong about it, or how many apologies have you muttered, because you had to, because you were told to, because it was 'the thing to do', how many apologies have you said, with real meaning, with real feeling, with real sorry attached....

From being little kids, we told, over and over again that we should admit when we did something wrong, we should say we are sorry, we should be honest...but in reality, in adult life, its not really that simple is it?? It should be....but people are not as forgiving as we should be, people are more careless than they should be, people see themselves as far more righteous than they really are, so do others ever truly forgive, well I guess, like most irritating things in life, it depends...on the person, the problem, the context, and a million and one other things...

Forgiving yourself however, now that should be easy, because only we truly can see the motives behind something, only we can truly know if we did something accidently or not, therefore surely, if we got it wrong on purpose, well how do you forgive yourself for that, for deliberately doing wrong....?? but if we make a mistake, mere human error, if we get it wrong, unintentionally, and we realise what we have done, and we're sorry, then surely we forgive ourselves...dont we?? Well actually, we don't, do we...I've made many a mistake in my life, more than I care to admit, I've said the wrong words, done the wrong thing, more times than I care to remember, and I guess i've reached a point, over time where I add these to my list of mistakes and experiences and move on...but theres always 'the biggy', the one thing that seems impossible to forgive and forget, how do we, how do I deal with that? I've analysed it, over and over...I know that I am truly sorry, I know that I have changed,so what next??

Surely I can begin to forgive myself...but only if others can aswell...or maybe i've got it all wrong, maybe we must forgive ourselves, before we can ask others to do so, i guess, why should we expect them to do something which we are not prepared to do ourselves??

And I guess this is where the last bit comes in, this is where God makes his appearance, he steps out from behind the scenes, where he always is, and he walks over to us, in front of the crowd that have gathered, in front of the numerous people, who know what we did, who witnessed it, who heard about it, who were hurt by it...he walks up to us, he takes us by the hand, you and me both, and he speaks, softly but clearly, honestly, truthfully

'I FORGIVE, IT IS FORGIVEN'

It is through this, by this, because of this, that even if others do not forgive, that we must give our past over to God, and allow him to grant us forgiveness, a forgiveness that we can apply to ourselves, a forgiveness we can feel, a forgiveness we can know, a forgiveness we can believe...

"Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" He straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." Hearing that, they walked away, one after another, beginning with the oldest. The woman was left alone. Jesus stood up and spoke to her. "Woman, where are they? Does no one condemn you?" "No one Master" "Then neither do I condemn you" Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

John 8:1-11 NIV

So give yourself over to God, and his wonderous forgiveness, his amazing grace, kneel before him, and let restoration begin, let him heal you, as he once healed others, let his forgivness grow inside you so that you may forgive yourself, and others, as he does

Amen <3

Go in peace, for the Lord is with you, always and forever
