Scripture, co-pilots and worship...
This and the next few posts are an assortment of stuff, an accumulation of things from various people and places that I've wanted to blog about but have been unable to post for one reason or another....
Some wise person once told me that: Scripture, isn't the end of the story, its the creating of context....this isn't something id ever really thought about, but actually its true, all the stories in the Bible, all the things Jesus said and did aren't done and told to create a happy ending-they are done to create a positive beginning, a context in which we can see things change, see things happen, and example for us to follow, they show us the way in which to do things, not the way we should have done things....Nowhere in scripture does it say 'The End', this isn't some cheesy film or romantic fairy tale, its about real life, and I can assure you, when you're on your death bed-they'll be no credits popping up....instead I hope to find a feeling of peace, of immense hope, for once again...it is not 'The End', instead...the beginning of yet something else that is so wonderful, a heavenly life life living for Jesus
If Jesus is your co-pilot, you'd better swap seats!! Don't hand control over to him when you don't know where to go next, when your tired and want a rest, or when things are going wrong, surrender, hand the controls over to him from the word GO, let him lead, let him chose the route, put him in charge of your journey together...
Don't ask God to take you where you want to go, don't try to find your own way, don't follow someone else, in the hope they are going to the same place-Find where you are, and then work out where God will take you, for I can guarantee, if its not where you were planning on going, it will be so much better!!
Whilst working out where he will take you, remember who it is you're following....whats the point in worshiping an unknown God, do you worship out of celebration, or to appease. We often give to charity because it appeases our guilt, rather than because we want to help....do we worship God to appease our conscience, or because we want to remind him how much we love him??
Think about how and why you worship, think about where and who you worship...can you do things differently, better perhaps? If you change a part of the process, the course of action, do we reach a different point, a different place-are we prepared to take the risk in losing something we feel we ought to keep, when actually change could bring us closer to whats important, to what really matters, we often become set in our ways, be it for appeasement or for ease of life...but remember, what you've got isn't necessarily as good as what you could have, so take a risk, change...don't focus on what you might lose, look to what you might gain.
Worship should be an encounter out of love, we should be engaging with God, he doesn't want us to worship him to appease our conscience, to tick a box in our heads, or to gain acceptance from others, don;'t hang on merely for fear of letting go-Remember you are a friend of God, not a servant, there is no such thing as off duty when it comes to God:
Worship God at 2am on a Tuesday when you can't sleep-no way, he only works Sundays, sorry
Luckily for us, this isn't the case, God is with us 24/7, but he doesn't hold us captive, worship should not be based on fear, but a friendship based on love
Amen <3
Go in peace, for the Lord is with you, always and forever
